Summer is here, and I can play with my colored pencils at breakfast time. I like to make these small sketches of mandalas. Also, I'm thinking about making a stained glass rose window. This would be a challenging window to make because each piece would need to be painted and fired in the kiln. I think it could make an awesome window, though.

I start by scanning one of my drawings and work with layers of colors and textures in photoshop. Printed with archival inks on smooth fine art paper. The triangle symbols near the perimeter of the mandala are old alchemical symbols for Fire, Earth, Water and Air. Contact me at andrewleone@earthlink.net if you are interested in purchase.

Last Ride on Devil's Slide

This is a t-shirt design I did for Nancy Hall and Lee Parvin of the Curios. Lee wrote a great rock number called, "Last Ride on Devil's Side" in honor of the upcoming Opening of the Tunnels and closing to traffic of the stretch of hwy known as Devil's Slide. The T-shirts and the pressing of cd singles of the song all sold out at the big Curio's Winter Concert. We've ordered, and are selling, more t-shirts. 16 individually created monoprints on paper have been mounted on a wood panel to create this image of a group of objects in our house, including a wooden duck decoy and wooden foot. Nancy collects a lot of interesting stuff.

This is an older painting that I've never had a digital slide of until now. I grew up in Monterey and played at the Dennis the Menace park many a summer, which was near this lake.

This collage of eight monoprints of palm trees and clouds was part of a series I made several years ago. The series was inspired by a visit to Palm Canyon near Palm Springs. This is from a slide collection of earlier work that I'm finally digitizing.

This is a new painting painted on top of a much older one, with parts of the old one showing through underneath. I call it Conveyance because it looks like some type of twisted bicycle, and it is a vehicle for transforming the old into the new.

I've been going through some slides and photos of my earlier work and I'm scanning stuff that's never been digitized. There are paintings and stained glass I nearly forgot about.

 

 I made this stained glass window when I lived in Victoria, B.C. Canada, when I was doing stained glass commissions. This one was for a home in James Bay between 1980-84.

This summer I'll be posting more regularly, both new works and older works that I'll be scanning.
